one of my teachers was strongly against shoulder pads last week. it broke my heart a little, i didn't say anything because the room was silent - how was i really gonna top the 'eighties are dead' speech? not happening. so then i just wondered, am i a select breed of fashion students who are crazy for impractical, over the top, shoulder pads?? almost every piece i've ever made has shoulder pads...it actually boggles my mind. am i nuts? or just, maybe Clarissa didn't explain it all.. hm.

it's been too long crazies, i've been caught up in so many side projects with some really creative, talented people and my April has now become jam packed with sewing, 3 seperate shoots, all of which i'm modeling in - which is a first.

I also had the pleasure of attending the Orange by Angela Chen show at LG Fashion Week right here in Toronto, I'll do a full post on my thoughts on the show. But know that it was effortless chic at it's finest with so many embellished details that had me stunned. It was wonderful to network and meet some other people within the industry after wards as well, and I can tell you that I have so much more on the way with Vinyl, and the blog.

I return to LG Fashion Week tomorrow night for The Party of Style II feat. DJ Colleen Shannon where i'll be seeing Betsey Johnson's FW2010. It's unreal, I'm way too excited and of course i will have tons of details and pictures for you once it's all just a distant memory.

Some other things I should catch you up on? Well, In a rushed decision for the sake of glamor I decided to cut off about 4.5 inches of hair and bleach it. My hair was a walking advertisement for KD for the first week, but it's now at this yellow/platinum that i'm kind of adoring.

that is all. i'm thrilled about tomorrow night and should probably get a move on.

I've been up all night working, planning, designing and the collection is coming along impeccably, I debated whether or not to feature all the clothes just yet on the blog for you guys to see. So although you will still see some of the garments for the line, I won't showcase every piece until the show. Thank you to everyone for their love and support, I've been getting the most amazing emails. I got a request to do a "web-episode", and i'll think about it. Crazies, if you think i died all over the last post -
Then you can only imagine what OVERCAME my being while glancing through the pictures from todays
Dsquared Menswear SS10 show in Milan.

The "Hockey Horror Dsquared Show," a perfect play on words. This is why I love Dsquared's design duo Dean and Dan Caten, they're risktakers, they went there with this collection. Taking my personal favourite film of all time "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and something that stays true to who they are as Canadians, Hockey. Its the perfect combination of the two: blood, gore, half-naked men and the traditional Rocky Horror set paired with tailored pants, cinched belts, and "Dsquared" hockey jerseys. genius. Even if each model wasn't selling "Hockey" to you, the bruised eyes and lips would have spewed it all over your eyeballs. And although my opinion can be considered slightly biased, being both Canadian and a religious Rocky Horror fan (attending every show monthly at Bloor Cinemas :P) I loved this collection. Loved it to the core, then died on top of its flesh!

My only issue? Bill Kaulitz from Tokyo Hotel. Really? Whats so glamourous about the character Frank N Furter is besides being a Transvesitite Alien Murderer, he maintains a certain level of masculinity that makes him identifiable. There isn't anything masculine about Bill Kaulitz, or anything special for that matter. He's completely overpowered by those luxurious feathered shoulders, and frankly just looks a little silly trying to be Frank. I'm still blown away by the show, just a little confused...but thats okay. On the other hand, Rihanna was the main focus for their womenswear collection in 2006 before she was identifiable in the fashion world. Dean and Dan like to keep us guessing and talking...

I read a few forums of people asking if it was literally translated from the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and as someone who can recite that movie to you from start to finish I can tell you that it is. The lab coats, the white tiled walls, the elevator, the white grecian statues. It's Rocky at it's finest. I rest my case below:

Jean Michel Basquiat started out as a Graffiti artist in New York City, In 1977-78 he was known by his graffiti signature, "SAMO" then broke out as a 1980's Neo-expressionist street artist. He worked closely and collaborated with Andy Warhol from 1984-1986. Jean Michel also dated Madonna briefly in the fall of 1982 when she was still unknown. He would often paint in Armani Suits and then appear in public shortly after all paint splattered. After Andy Warhol's death in 1987 its speculated that Basquiat went on a downward spiral of drugs and depression. Jean Michel died in August 2, 1988, of an accidental mixed drug-toxicity. He had been taking cocaine to stay up all night and paint, then heroin in the morning to go back to sleep. He was 27 years old.

Reebok created these in tribute to Basquiat.

I'm not usually one for sneakers, but it was love at first sight. and you don't mess around with love at first sight, right? sooo, i kind of bought them earlier this week. Can't wait for them to arrive!
